It’s the symbolic seat of the revolution; post-Gaddafi Libya’s equivalent of Egypt’s Tahrir Square. … according to multiple eyewitnesses—myself included—one can now see both the Libyan rebel flag and the flag of al Qaeda fluttering atop Benghazi’s courthouse.
According to one Benghazi resident, Islamists driving brand-new SUVs and waving the black al Qaeda flag drive the city’s streets at night shouting, “Islamiya, Islamiya! No East, nor West,” a reference to previous worries that the country would be bifurcated between Gaddafi opponents in the east and the pro-Gaddafi elements in the west. But, dear Daphne, please check if al-Jazeera, al-BBC, as-CNN, al-Malta Independent, al-Times of Malta, al-Cameron, as-Sarkozy, al-Obama and the al-Clintons can confirm this “news” – as with certain islamophobes one never knows (and maybe it’s just some odd pirate flag, put there for a few days to celebrate Halloween). Because, as you know, if they don’t confirm the news for now, that al-Qaeda flag will of course remain as nonexistent as those al-Qaeda training camps in our dear (as good as) serbenrein Kosovo.
